50th Hydrogen Refueling Station Opened in Potsdam Germany

With the commissioning of the 50th public hydrogen filling station, the partners H2 MOBILITY, Linde and TOTAL celebrate today an important stage in the development of hydrogen mobility in Germany. In the presence of representatives of the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking (FCH 2 JU) of the European Union, the Federal Government, the Brandenburg Government and the city of Potsdam, the station in the Horstweg in the southeast of Potsdam was inaugurated.

In addition to a 700-bar dispenser for cars, a device for an optional 350-bar dispenser for bus refueling is also pre-installed at the station. The technology for the new hydrogen plant at the TOTAL petrol station in Potsdam comes from Linde and enables the refueling of around 40 vehicles per day. The owner and operator is the joint venture H2 MOBILITY, in which the companies Air Liquide, Daimler, Linde, OMV, Shell and TOTAL have joined forces. The first goal of the partners is the operation of 100 stations in seven German conurbations (Hamburg, Berlin, Rhine-Ruhr, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, Stuttgart and Munich) and along highways and highways until 2019. With the ramp-up of the number of fuel cell vehicles then more 300 hydrogen filling stations are added.

For the construction of the hydrogen station in Potsdam, H2 MOBILITY receives funding from Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking (FCH 2 JU) under Grant Agreement No. 671438. The Joint Undertaking will be funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation and Hydrogen Europe and Hydrogen Europe Research.

H2 MOBILITY is part of Hydrogen Mobility Europe (H2ME), a flagship project funded by the FCH JU that unites Europe's leading initiatives in hydrogen mobility - in Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Scandinavia. Through H2ME, FCH JU is supporting the development of a large-scale H2 filling station infrastructure with the aim of enabling emission-free driving throughout Europe.

In recent years, the development of the nationwide H2 network has been largely driven by the commitment of the Clean Energy Partnership (CEP), an association of industry representatives from various sectors, which is funded by the German government under the National Innovation Program Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP) , The Confederation is also an associated partner of H2 MOBILITY through NOW GmbH.

Hydrogen e-mobility reduces CO 2 emissions
Environmentally-friendly electromobility with hydrogen does not cause either local pollutants or CO 2 emissions and, thanks to short refueling times and long ranges, offers a high level of ride comfort. Fuel cell vehicles can be refueled in less than five minutes with energy for up to 800 kilometers. Compared to battery-powered cars, H2 vehicles generate their own electricity on board by reacting hydrogen with air in the fuel cell, generating the power needed to power the vehicle.
The expansion of the H2 infrastructure in Germany is progressing well. In recent days, further stations in Dresden, Hasbergen and Ratingen have been completed. Other filling stations are currently under construction and planning, eg in Leipzig, Hamburg, Magdeburg and Erfurt.
